The following weather analysis is based on data of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. The university’s weather station is located in the center of the city, therefore the winds on the gulf are expected to be slightly stronger. For all months, prevailing winds are, in order of frequency, SW, NW, NE and SE. SW and NW winds are the most frequent, wind force increases at midday and decreases significantly throughout the afternoon. SW wind is the sea breeze, locally known as “boucadoura”. This phenomenon is particularly strong during the month of June and July and takes place on a regular daily basis. The following charts shows wind strengths and directions in July. Speeds are given in km / hour, which can be converted to knots by multiplying with 0,54
